    Rhode Island, circa 1770

    Mahogany, poplar, with old or original finish.

    Together with an English silver pair-cased fuse pocket circa 1820 containing a Newburyport Massachusetts repair paper. The watch is not in working order.

    Note:
    The distinctive and recognizable concave shell-design on this watch hutch matches those found in the interiors of many Rhode Island-made desks and secretaries, its maker was likely one of the many apprentices who trained under cabinetmakers in both Newport and Providence.
