Description
Brutalist Tripod Floor Sculpture, c.1955 – Blackened Steel & Orange Crystal
A striking mid-century floor sculpture styled after the Brutalist works of Falkenstein and Chadwick, this tripod form marries industrial rawness with a pop of color. Crafted in blackened steel with welded armatures and pronged fittings, the piece cradles a faceted orange crystal stone at its apex. The dynamic three-legged stance and hand-forged accents create a tactile, architectural presence that anchors any modern or eclectic interior.
Dimensions
• Height: 23.5″ (59.7 cm)
• Width: 25″ (63.5 cm)
• Depth: 20″ (50.8 cm)
Condition
Good vintage condition with slight surface wear and oxidation consistent with age. No repairs or restorations. The crystal remains intact and securely mounted; the patina on the steel enhances the piece’s original Brutalist character.
Stylistic & Collectors’ Note
This floor sculpture embodies the mid-century fascination with “truth to materials”—celebrating steel’s natural texture while introducing an unexpected gemstone element. Ideal as a standalone art object, it also complements Brutalist, Industrial, or Mid-Century Modern collections.
