    Relief carved and painted wooden ship on board.
    11 ½” h., 13 ½” w.
    Excellent condition, in original oval mahogany frame. Wonderful oxidized, untouched surface.
    Provenance: Donal Naetzker, Fairport, New York; Collection of Andree and Bryce Chase, Port Royal, South Carolina.
    Lloyd Thomas was not only a skilled craftsman and carver but a highly talented sculptor. He worked at Camden Shipbuilding and Marine Railway Co. during World War II. Thomas is best known for relief wood carved panels of ships, fish, and eagles. He most famously carved a Rockland-built clipper ship, Red Jacket, that was purchased for President Roosevelt and hung in the White House.
