Description
Coin Operated Mechanical Gramophone
Magnificent hand-cranked gramophone from the prestigious French house Pathé, from around the 1930s.
Its most peculiar feature is its complex winding mechanism, which, to make the disc turn, requires not only winding it by turning the crank, but also inserting a coin.
It currently works perfectly, inserting two 20 cent euro coins.
The gramophone is crowned by a beautiful, large golden horn in the shape of a bellflower.
The piece of furniture has a large structure made of pine wood stained and varnished in walnut colour with decoration based on wooden profiles.
The disc tray and the slot for inserting coins are placed on a hinged lid. The lid opens to access the mechanism and to collect the coins that fall into an internal drawer.
The front of the cabinet features small wooden frames for placing posters, and a large wooden grill through which the sound from the speaker comes out.
