Ceramic vases inspired by nature. Cristina Salusti says about this body of work: "the practice of leaving the studio to explore familiar trails has allowed me to approach my work with new perspective. My work has become more primal; rugged rather than refined. Moving away from symmetry, these pieces tilt as if they could fall. Experimenting with a new process, I have been able to create a highly textured surface. After building my form, I press paper thin pieces of clay onto stone, peel them off and attach them one by one to the piece with slip that I let drip freely. This creates a second skin. I am not concerned with perfection. Through endless firings, layering a multitude of glazes and oxides, chemistry and chance create a texturally rich surface with blisters and cracks."
