Description
A large and impressive early Samson porcelain covered baluster vase in late 17th, early 18th century Japanese Edo Genroku Imari style on finely cast Louis XVI style ormolu bronze base having 'geisha' form finial on domed cover atop high-shouldered baluster-form jar all polychrome painted and gilt with a continuous scene of a palace within gardens.
The French ceramics firm of ‘Samson, Edmé et Cie' was founded in Paris in 1845, and produced high quality copies of rare and important Japanese, Chinese, and European porcelain wares. -
