Description
Indian bronze signed E. Drouot. Cast with plenty of detail depicting an Indian man who is on the look out while holding a bow in hunting position. Drouot did multiple sculptures rendering the American Indian theme.
Edouard Drouot was born in Sommevoire in April 1859. Early on, he was a successful painter, in addition to being a sculpture, he received an honourable mention at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1900. Drouot studied in Paris under Emile Thomas 1817-82. Drouot also studied under Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912), a renowned family of sculptors in marble and bronze.
Drouot was highly successful and widely collected. He produced portrait busts, figurative works using both allegorical and mythological subjects. Drouot exhibited at the Salon from 1889 and continued to exhibit into the twentieth century. He worked in bronze, producing animalier works, North African subjects and Indians (like the one offered here) and on horseback. -
