This magnificent candelabrum is an impressive example of 19th-century French bronze craftsmanship by the celebrated founder Ferdinand Barbedienne, one of the most renowned bronziers of the period. Barbedienne became internationally acclaimed for producing exceptionally high-quality decorative bronzes, admired for their rich patination, refined casting, and superb attention to detail.
The candelabrum is cast in patinated and gilt bronze, rising from an ornate circular base decorated with classical motifs and finely chased ornament. The central stem supports five scrolling candle arms, each richly embellished with foliate details and elegant drip pans, creating a balanced and highly decorative composition.
Particularly striking is the contrast between the dark patinated bronze and the luminous gilt highlights, a combination characteristic of the finest French decorative arts of the period.
