Description
2 Rare French Midcentury Animal Sculptures / Stools or Ottomans in the style of Francois Xavier Lalanne, France (1927-2008). The ensemble is composed of a sheep and a llama sculpture. The sheep and llama sculptures of wood and wool can be used as a footstools or decorative sculptures. When Francois Lalanne first introduced these sculptures in Paris in 1965, they caused a sensation. They transformed the idea of what a contemporary interior could be. They brought the natural world of the farm indoors with their lifelike appearance; and yet, had function as seating. They brought warmth and a surreal connection to nature. And, having a sheep in your living room, as opposed to a wood bench or chair , is just pure fun! Naturally, fashion designer Yves St. Laurent and Pierre Berge quickly had a grouping made for their home and Peter Marino Architect had a large grouping for his lawn. Pieces like these are hard to find.
The life-like sheep figure measures 30"L x 20"H x 9"W. Llama sculpture measures 20.5"H x 13"L x 7"W. Priced and sold as a pair.
