Description
Antique Austrian Orientalist bronze donkey by Bergman
Austrian, c. 1910
Height 13cm, width 13cm, depth 7cm
This beautiful cold-painted bronze by Franz Xaver Bergman depicts a donkey and its rider, who stands beside. The bronze group is naturalistically rendered with great detailing, and the cold-painted colour palette is rich and vibrant. As with many pieces produced in Austria during the first decades of the twentieth century, the work is in the Orientalist manner, depicting an image perhaps drawn from North Africa or the Middle East. The piece is stamped ‘B’ for Bergman.
