Description
Antique set of Viennese cold-painted bronze cats
Austrian, late 19th Century
Tallest: Height 6cm
Smallest: Height 1.5cm
This set of seven antique bronze cats are each posed differently, and are cast using the highly collectable Viennese cold-painted bronze technique. The labour-intensive technique involves casting each piece in several sections and welding them together. The process takes its name from the final surface finish, which is achieved through working the cast surface and then applying multiple layers of lead-based paint. Pieces made using this technique are often whimsical and amusing, which have become highly sought-after by collectors.
The seven models have the following dimensions:
Cat with a cone, height 6cm
Cat with a broom, height 4.5cm
Sitting cat, height 2.5cm
Lying cat, height 1.5cm
Cat on pot, height 4cm
Cat holding another cat, height 5cm -
