Description
French 18th century gold mounted walking stick
French, 1769
Height 116cm, diameter 3cm
Dating back to 1789, this walking stick exemplifies the remarkable craftsmanship of 18th century French artisans.
The gold-mounted handle is beautifully engraved with a rosette design and encircled by a delicate loop band, showcasing the elegance of the period. The top of the handle is adorned with a simple circular motif, framed by repeating decorative patterns. It is stamped with Paris hallmarks from 1769 and carries the maker's mark of Julien Alaterre.
The walking stick features a metal-lined eyelet near the upper section, providing a practical space for a wrist cord, making it easier to carry.
The wooden shaft gently tapers as it descends and ends with a metal ferrule.
With its refined craftsmanship and historical provenance, this walking stick is a distinguished piece for any collector of 18th century antiques. -
