French 18th Century Solid Oak Carved Coffer

Description
Dimensions: 29 ½” H x 60” W x 23 ½” D
A French, solid oak coffer from the 1700s, this heavy storage trunk has a paneled exterior counterbalanced with meticulously carved tulip and acanthus motifs that scrolls across the frieze–adding to the sophistication of this 18th century antique. The lid opens on hand-forged iron hinges to a deep and wide storage compartment that makes it versatile for an entryway, hall, or mudroom. One could even use it as a traditional “footlocker” placed at the end of a bed. There is a keyhole hidden in the frieze however the lock (and key) has since been removed. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain this cherished antique for future generations. We believe this item to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
