Description
French porcelain and gilt bronze vases in the Chinoiserie style
French, 19th Century
Height 79cm, width 33cm, depth 30cm
Crafted in the distinctive and eclectic French Chinoiserie style, this beautiful pair of gilt bronze mounted porcelain vases is a superb example of 19th Century French decorative art.
Each vase features a bulbous porcelain body and a large, flared porcelain neck. The cream-colour ground porcelain is parcel gilt with floral designs, while the body of each vase is painted to the front with a portrait of a young lady and to the rear with a floral arrangement. Furthermore, the front of each neck is painted with a landscape scene, and the reverse with a floral image.
Each vase is mounted with exceptionally wrought gilt bronze mounts: each sits on an ornate pierced gilt bronze base, is set to the lip with a Chinoiserie style gilt bronze rim, and, most remarkably, each vase features twin dragon-form handles, each finely wrought from gilt bronze. -
