Description
A large and substantial Art Deco vase sculpted by Auguste Goor for the Mougin pottery works in France, this off-white piece depicts a nude female figure, holding a length of fabric draped around her waist, in a lush sea of water lilies and lily pads. Auguste's son, Gaston, was famous for illustrating a number of books by Roger Peyrefitte and others in France. This piece was produced by Joseph and Pierre Mougin, who were closely associated with the Ecole de Nancy. They are known for ceramic pieces that are characterized by deep incised lines and gorgeous glazes. The vase is well marked on the bottom.
