Japanese Woven Bamboo Ikebana Hatakeyama Seido
-
Description
A beautifully hand-woven Japanese flower basket (ikebana) by bamboo artist Hatakeyama Seido (b. 1930). Entitled "Ajiro Spiral Pattern Flower Basket", the piece was made in 2007 and purchased from Tai Modern the same year. Woven in twill plaiting, the artist created a "spiral" visual effect by using slightly reddish bamboo stripes that form oblique lines across the body. A subtle but quite effect touch. The opening of the ikebana takes a heart shape seen from certain angle. Th rounded base supports a swelled lower body and render the light piece a gravitational balance.
The piece was signed on the base "Seido", and it comes with its original tomobako with inscribed title, artist's name and seal in Kanji.
A quiet piece with subtle beauty that invites visual meditation from the viewer. -
