Jean Cocteau (1889-1963), writer, poet, playwright, filmmaker, as well as draftsman, ceramicist, and graphic designer, explored numerous art forms throughout his career. The author of "Antigone" and "Oedipus Rex" was also the one who brought Jean Marais to prominence, particularly in his 1946 film "Beauty and the Beast." His prolific output, including more than 300 ceramics and pieces of jewelry, inspired the Parisian fashion house Hermès. Founded in 1837, the saddlery house became a jewel of the French luxury industry during the 20th century, notably thanks to its famous printed silk scarves. Cocteau's distinctive graphic style led to the creation of the "Cleopatra's Eye" magnifying glass and a beach towel, produced in 2011 to commemorate the wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco.
