Description
HENRI-ALFRED MARIE JACQUEMART
French, 1824-1896
Le héron pêcheur (Heron Devouring a Frog)
Patinated bronze, signed to base "A. JACQUEMART"; almost certainly cast by Auguste Delafontaine circa 1880
11 7/16" H x 7" W x 4 9/16"D
An exquisitely cast example of Henri-Alfred Jacquemart's "Heron Devouring a Frog", the model is sand-cast in at least seven parts before being carefully joined and finished by the foundry. This was almost without a doubt cast by the foundry of Auguste Delafontaine, though it is not marked. Note the exceedingly good capture of detail from the underlying mold. Finished in a medium-to-dark-brown patina with a reddish undertone. Signed A. JACQUEMART on base.
Condition: Faint seam lines visible where the model was joined together. Tiny divot below joint of heron's neck. Minor relief and rubbing wear to patina, spot of wear at joint of bird's back/hip/wing. Carefully cleaned, sealed in conservator's wax and ready to place.
