Description
Iranian Qajar period lacquered and lithographed wood pencase
Iranian, 19th Century
Height 4cm, width 23cm, depth 4cm
This antique Iranian pencase (known as a Qalamdan) is a typical product of the Persian Qajar period in the 19th Century, when craftsmanship flourished. Built from wood, the exterior of the case is lacquered with images of figures and trees. It has rounded ends and can be opened to reveal a sliding tray. Dating from this period of great artistic innovation, this delicate and intricate piece is a fine collector's item, and equally fascinating from an historical perspective. -
