Japanese Wood Noh Mask of Jo

Description
This mask comes in its original kiri wood storage box, which is signed and dated: Koran, 1811. The box also describes the mask as part of the honorable collection of Gokoku'in (a shrine dedicated to those lost in battle). This hand carved Noh mask depicts character, Jo, the Old Man. This rendition of Jo was created in the 16th century by Magojiro. Hand carved wood, painted in gesso with horse hair for the beard and hair.
