Java Style Seated Buddha, Thailand, 19th century

$ 1,250
  • Description
    This serene seated Buddha is cast in bronze with a darkened patina and sits in meditation pose on a carved wooden base. The figure displays the characteristic features of Java style sculpture, including the distinctive pointed ushnisha (crown-like headdress) rendered in detailed raised bumps, alert eyes, and a draped robe with gold-highlighted edges.
    Circa 19th century, this piece reflects the Thai tradition of honoring Buddhist artistic forms influenced by Javanese sculptural conventions. The combination of bronze casting with wood base construction represents a common practice in Southeast Asian religious and decorative arts of the period.
