Description
French bronze bust of a woman after Jean-Antoine Houdon
French, late 19th Century
Height 60cm, width 26cm, depth 22cm
This superb patinated bronze sculpture depicts a sensuously clad young woman. The figure glances down to her right with coyness, while she crosses her arms before her chest in an attempt to cover herself against her slipping clothing. Her figure is deftly cast from bronze and finished with a beautiful, green-tinged patination. The bust is raised on a socle above a square base, and the reverse is signed 'Rieuse de Houdon', indicating that it is after a piece by Jean-Antoine Houdon.
