Description
Bronze sculpture of Perseus and Andromeda by Grégoire
French, 19th Century
Height 52cm, width 27cm, depth 21cm
Constructed from patinated bronze and adorned with partial gilding, this intricate figure group vividly captures the pivotal moment in Greek mythology when Andromeda is freed from her chains by the hero, Perseus. Both characters are meticulously modelled as full-length mythological figures, lending a sense of life and movement to the scene. They stand atop a finely detailed, naturalistic circular base, which bears the signature 'L. Grégoire', indicating the artist's proud work.
