Expressionist Bronze Plastic Europa by Czech Artist Josef Klimes V/XXV 1997

Spectacular expressionist bronze plastic 'Europa' of Czech sculptor Josef Klimeš (1928-2018). It depicts a taurus (bull) and silhouette of a nude on the torso of the taurus.

The bronze plastic is signed, dated and numbered: J. Klimeš 97 V. V/XXV. This one is the 5th of the 25 (V/XXV) pieces which are created by the artist in 1997. Cast by HVH.

The certificate / documentation (see the last images) issued by the gallery Edition Medici which sold the bronze plastic is available and will be delivered with the bronze plastic.

1947: High school graduation (Abitur) at the *Realgymnasium* in Velké Meziříčí
1947 - 49: Studied Art History at Charles University in Prague
1949 -54: Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Professor Lauda
From 1993 on: Taught modeling at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University in Prague

Klimeš was - particularly during the 1960s - one of the most prominent representatives of the 'Informel' art movement.

Klimeš rose to fame thanks to a metal sculpture situated in front of the Czechoslovak Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, for which he was even awarded the Expo's Grand Prix. Among his other works, Klimeš created the monumental sculpture located on Prague's Barrandov Bridge.
