Description
Ormolu and onyx figure of a dancer by Josef Lorenzl
Austrian, c. 1925
Height 25.5cm, width 12cm, depth 7cm
Josef Lorenzl (Austrian. 1892-1950) wonderfully designed and crafted this vivacious figure of a dancer in Austria around 1925.
The figure is cast from ormolu and depicts a slender, young female dancer. Her eyes wide open, hair flowing behind her, the dancer is frozen in time during an energetic dance routine. She is standing on one leg, the other raised and her arms extended.
The delicate ormolu figure stands atop a cuboid onyx plinth mounted on a square base. The pale green, orange, and cream colouration of the stone, superbly matches the colouring of the ormolu.
The piece is signed ‘LORENZL’ on the circular ormolu base and would make a fantastic addition to one’s collection of Art Deco sculptures.
