Art Deco Ceramic Vase with Geometric Spirals in Relief By Joseph Mougin Nancy

This striking ceramic vase originates from nancy, France Circa 1925. Spherical in form with two coiled bands composing the mouth and base of the vase, this Art Deco piece utilizes a repeating motif of relief carved spirals in contrasting hues of muted greens, deftly executed with charming irregularities and clever control of space characteristic of hand sculpted ceramics of the period. With a glazed interior that soaks in light creating a brilliant depth to the interior, the attention to detail is evident throughout. Reminiscent of the earliest spiritual forms and ancient imagery, one can imagine this piece emerging from and Archeological site as easily as on the sideboard of the most sophisticated French Interiors. Will style brilliantly in a wide range of movements and design eras, bringing a mysterious boldness along with its material beautiful and creative execution.
