Large Chinese Scholar Greenery Stone on Stand

Description
A beautiful scholar stone in the form of a jade plaque with natural green veins that resemble bamboo shoots, which show on both sides. This type of greenery stone is likely collected from Northeastern province of Liao Ning in China. It consists of naturally occurring jadeite, moss agate, serpentine and other natural minerals, the pattern of which suggests landscapes full of trees, grasses and other natural forms.
The history of collecting and appreciating interesting stones among the literati in China began as early as the 13th century in Yuan dynasty. These stones were highly priced for their form and shape, which were considered containing the spirit of nature. They were displayed in the studio for meditation.
The stone itself measures 14 H x 20-1/2 W x 1 D. -
