Large Japanese Bronze Incense Burner

Description
Signature reads Yagenbori Tomita. This bronze has a hare that appears to be running across water as the design and is based on the Japanese tale of the "Hare of Inaba". In this folktale, a hare tricks some sharks into being used as a land bridge in order to travel from the Island of Oki.
