Description
Large pair of ormolu and malachite rhino table candelabra
French, 20th Century
Height 134cm, width 55cm, depth 49cm
This remarkable pair of candelabra is centred around finely cast patinated bronze rhinoceroses, each forming the base for an elaborate arrangement of lights. Resting on architectural stepped bases of rich malachite, the sculptures are elevated by ornate gilt bronze mounts, including classical friezes, scrollwork feet, and decorative framing details.
Each rhinoceros supports a gilded platform bordered by a pierced gallery and adorned with draped garlands and glass drops. Rising from this is a twisted ormolu stem set with malachite accents, which branches out into eight scrolling arms, each further embellished with foliate details and suspended droplets. In total, each candelabrum supports nine lights.
Combining sculptural drama with refined craftsmanship, these exceptional pieces bring a bold and decorative flourish to any interior. -
