Description
Large pair of Rococo style gilt bronze and blue ceramic vases
French, Early 20th Century
Height 110cm, width 47cm, depth 42cm
The two vases are of large, ovoid form, and feature fluted bodies which are crafted in ceramic with a mottled blue colouring. The vases are mounted with twin gilt bronze scrolling handles that are joined by floral swags and garlands, and their covers are topped with pine-cone finials. The socle bases of the vases feature gilt bronze banding and acanthus leaf designs, with each vase set upon four scrolling feet.
The beautiful contrast between the rich, blue ceramic and the striking gilt bronze mounts makes these vases highly decorative works of art. Moreover, the dark and light blue design resembles the naturalistic effect of light playing on the surface of rippled water and, despite their antique origins in the early 20th Century, the vases have a strikingly modern feel to them. -
