This refined modernist sculpture, entitled "Head", was realized by the esteemed 20th century artist Lorraine Stimmel in 1981. Presented on a brushed aluminum base and secured by a cylindrical support (in the same material), the piece presents an abstracted stylized representation of a female human head devoid of facial features in polished exotic marble. The piece has a ovoid head sitting with a chin that comes to a point and a faceted top which connects to a slender neck. There is a unfinished marble element on one side of the head, which perhaps represents the figure's hair or alternately a pillow on which the head lies. With its beautiful craftsmanship and clean modernist lines, this piece is not only sure to delight discerning collectors of modern art, but those with a penchant for exquisite objects. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary. The base is inscribed "Lorraine Stimmel Head 1981". It is in excellent vintage condition.
