Vintage Toy Wind-Up Dump Truck by The Marx Toy Company, N.Y. American Circa 1930

$ 435
  • Description
    Offered is a hard to find Marx floor toy dump truck with dual action. NOT diecast------made of all tin. Capability to raise and lower the bed is activated by rotating the attached axle and rotating it. The attached wind up key when wound with the truck placed on the floor activates the clockwork mechanism and transports the truck along the floor, albeit slowly at first (see movie attached to listing). The truck is completely original, which is unusual for this toy since it would have had some rough floor toy playing treatment. The hand paint and lithography are predominantly in colors of blue and red, with black lettering; 100% original, as are all four wheels and the lithographed driver in the cab. The bumpers and fenders are original; slight dent to right cab door. Markings on the truck include "Builders Supply Co.", "SAND" "GRAVEL" to each side of the bed; the number "7" to each side of the cab door; and the Marx logo behind the bumper.

    Dimensions: 11" long x 5" wide x 4" high

    Provenance: From a recently acquired West Coast collection of fine quality tin toys.

    Note: After 40 plus years of dealing and collecting toys, I am justly qualified to guarantee and present the authenticity of antique and vintage toys and children's playthings; important considering the fakes and reproductions in the marketplace. My toys operate properly and are as stated and accurately described.

    it would behoove an enterprising collector, dealer, or decorator to take advantage of the opportunity to buy as many of the vintage tin toys that I have listed for sale; it would create an immediate quality collection, as most of these toys came, either from a long time premium California collection or from my own shelves. It would take quite some time and effort to accumulate toys this clean, authentic, original, operable and in excellent condition.

These rare and unique items were sold during the late 1800's and early 1900's to encourage and educate young children on the importance of saving money, with the majority of them having been made in America. We are leading experts in this field and one of the foremost dealers, having traded in mechanical banks since 1976.
