Description
No 11125
A handsome Victorian Burr Walnut and Brass Campaign Writing Box by Mappin & Webb, with an interior plaque stating “MAPPIN & WEBB, 2, Queen Victoria St., London, E. O.”. The box exterior has brass edges and brass inlays including a blank cartouche on the top centre lid, whilst the interior comprises a gilt tooled green leather writing slope opening and closing with brass hinges, baize lined interior compartments, two side interior compartments for fitted glass inkwells and silver stoppers with incised naval anchor designs, a quill/pen tray, another two compartments one of which is for pounce powder, as well as a secret compartment. The underside of the box is baized. Working lock and key.
