Description
Mauritius Pfeiffer for Volkstedt (1887-1957, Germany) "Nude Mercury, God of Commerce" porcelain, circa 1920s.
Beautifully sculpted and featuring exquisite details, this Art Deco depiction of a seated, nude Mercury sitting on a bag of coins was fabricated by Mauritius Pfeiffer for Volkstedt porcelain works in Germany. Volkstedt, located in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, dated back to the 18th century. It was known for its very delicate work into the mid-20th century. In the 1920s Pfeiffer sculpted a number of figures for the company, some of which have been collected by major museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Pfeiffer brings lovely attention to the details of his figures as can be observed in his piece available now at Showrooms2220. - More Information
