Description
Tubular vase with flared base in acid-etched multi-layered blown glass by Emile Gallé, Editions Gallé, Nancy, France.
Double rounded back separated by a vertical groove.
Pink poppy flowers and green foliage on an opalescent background. Signed « Gallé » on the back.
« My roots are deep in the woods ». Emile Gallé’s motto translates his major inspiration from nature and botany. Ornamenting his glassware with floral and vegetal ornaments, the Nancy master laid the foundations of the Art Nouveau aesthetic in his field. After his death, the Gallé establishments, under the direction of Paul Perdrizet, disseminated Gallé’s research and delivered numerous high-quality creations until their closure in 1936. This vase meets the Art Nouveau standard by matching form and decoration. A veritable plant sculpture in full bloom, its atypical, naturalistic, almost ductile form sits alongside a finely engraved poppy flower design, whose very symbolism invites reverie. -
