1970's Studio pottery ceramic decorative box by Mithé Espelt

Sold Sold
  • Description
This box, with its naive and joyful appearance, embodies the singular vision of an artist who deliberately remained in the shadows.
Mithé Espelt, a great 20th-century French ceramicist, chose anonymity to allow the object itself to take center stage.
Behind her creations in precious hues (crackled gold, deep colors) lies a sensitive, poetic, and resolutely feminine universe.

Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts under Pierre Soulages and Valentine Schlegel, she opened a studio in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district before retiring to Lunel. This emblematic piece bears witness to an era when the decorative object became a discreet manifesto of freedom.

Message from Seller:

L'Original Gallery opened as Regis Royant Gallery in 1995, and was first dedicated to french art deco. Now we specialised in 1960’s and 1970’s decorative art. We also work with several contemporary artists and additionally we create our own designs. Most of our pieces are made in very small editions or are one of a kind. The artists featured in our gallery are from France, Belgium and Italy. We also work with many interior designers for whom we create special orders.
