Modernist Pius X Weathercock Rooster - 1960s
-
Description
Modernist weathercock rooster, a unique abstract sculpture sourced out of the remarkable Pius X, a new parish church, designed in the late 1950s and built in 1960 in the Slotervaart district in Amsterdam. The church was erected according to a modified, slightly sober design by J.A. van der Laan (1896-1966) and was an important work in his later oeuvre. Surrounded by schools and a patronage house, this formed a monumental post-war Roman Catholic complex in Amsterdam.
