Neoclassical marble sculpture bust after Joseph Chinard
French, late 19th Century
Height 65cm, width 34cm, depth 55cm
Portraying Madame Récamier, a leading proponent of the Neoclassical style in early 19th Century France, this marble bust is a superb piece of French sculpture. The bust is after the celebrated original by Chinard, one of the leading sculptors of the period. Madame Récamier is depicted in a wonderfully sensual manner, her revealing clothing hinting at the form of her body beneath. The present sculpture is a superb piece of art that faithfully replicates the original. The piece is supported by a green marble base. -
