Description
FRANZ ROSSE
German, 1858-1900
"Orientalische Tänzerin mit Schalmei” (1888)
Patinated bronze over rouge marble | Signed verso "F. Rosse fec. 88"
Item # 109KEP24Q An extremely fine Art Nouveau casting of Orientalische Tänzerin mit Schalmei after Franz Rosse circa 1900, it is such a delicate model and is a rare find on the open market. The model is situated over a rouge marble base, the bronze base designed to conform perfectly with the faceted marble. Note the intricate handling of the garment with minute elements crisply captured - unusual attention to detail includes the wrinkles inside of her curved foot and the bends of her finger joints; the development of each necklace around her neck, the chiseled texture of the arm bangles and the hand-hammered texture of her flowing garment all speak to the technical superiority of both the foundry and the artist. The model is finished in an overall medium-brown surface patina. Artist Listings & Bibliography: E. Benezit Dictionary of Artists, Vol. XI, Gründ, 2006, p. 1396
Measurements: 18 3/4" H x 7 1/2" W at widest point; base is 6" D x 6" W
Condition Report: Some very light handling wear to her cheeks, tiny spot to the back of the upraised arm, some scuffs around the hand and aulos. Very fine original condition. -
