Pair 19th C. American Andirons
-
Description
This is an exceptional pair of large c. 1850 cast iron andirons. The andiron shaft is composed of a mythological dolphin on a classical plinth surmounted by a medallion encircling a 18th century sailing ship. All elements of the andirons are in very good condition. These fireplace essentials are great design details for East Coast and Coastal Southern homes--especially those with sea=loving adventurers. The dolphin shafts are vertical (pls excuse my photography); there is a slight intentional inward tilt to the ship medallions. The log supports have been restored. Considering their age, most probably the andirons have been repainted; otherwise, they are original.
