Pair of Brass Spaniel-Head Bookends Mid-20th Century

Description
Pair of cast brass bookends modeled as the heads of spaniels, or gun-dogs, and worked as opposing profiles. Long pendant ears fall to either side of a domed skull, the coat rendered in fine incised striation, with a narrow collar line to the throat and a raised oval plinth to the foot. Hollow-cast, with a casting seam visible to the crown and minor porosity to the plinths. Green felt to the reverse and underside. Polished surface, the tone darker in the recesses. Mid-20th Century, circa 1950-1960.
