Description
Rare and Unique Airplane Whirligig with Three Figures
Probably New England, late 19th/ early 20th c.
Appears to be pine with polychrome paint, iron and tin.
Over-all in wonderful condition, few early repairs to paddle arms and missing tail, otherwise in untouched original condition, including red, white and blue painted surface.
A rare survivor given the natural elements this whirligig endured throughout its life, furthermore, it is remarkable that so much of the original paint survived.
The three carved figures were done with an artistic impression and whimsical folksiness.
