Description
Robert Arneson Monumental Brutalist Stoneware Vessel, 1963
A commanding example of Robert Arneson’s early studio pottery, this monumental vessel embodies the raw power of Brutalist ceramics. Hand–thrown in glazed stoneware, its heavily textured, unrefined exterior contrasts dramatically with the vibrant cobalt-blue glazed opening—a signature interplay of rugged form and refined detail.
• Material: High-fire glazed stoneware
• Style: Brutalist—emphasizing raw textures and sculptural abstraction
• Glaze: Rich cobalt-blue interior rim against an earthy, unglazed body
• Artist’s Mark: Incised “Arneson ’63” on lower edge
Dimensions
• Height: 20 in
• Width: 22½ in
• Depth: 5 in
Condition
Very good original vintage condition. Natural kiln marks and subtle firing variations enhance the vessel’s tactile, handmade character. No cracks or restorations.
