Description
Sèvres Art Deco Ceramic Vase with Patinated Metal Mounts by Paul Milet, France 1920s
This refined Sèvres ceramic vase represents one of the most distinctive expressions of French Art Deco design produced under the direction of Paul Milet during the early twentieth century. The form is powerful yet elegantly restrained, featuring a generously rounded body articulated by strong vertical ribs that create both architectural rhythm and visual depth. The glowing amber and honey tones of the glaze are richly layered, producing a luminous surface that responds beautifully to natural and artificial light.
The sculptural body is crowned and grounded with finely worked patinated metal mounts that introduce a bold geometric contrast to the flowing ceramic form. These applied metal elements emphasize the vertical lines of the vase while reinforcing the modernist character that defined the Sèvres atelier during the interwar period. The metalwork displays a deliberate architectural vocabulary, evoking the stepped motifs and structural ornament that became hallmarks of French Art Deco design.
Works by Paul Milet for Sèvres are recognized for their exceptional technical execution and their ability to merge ceramic artistry with metal craftsmanship. Vases of this caliber were created in limited numbers for progressive interiors, private collectors, and design patrons seeking objects that embodied both luxury and modernity. This piece stands today as a highly collectible example of French Art Deco ceramic art, offering commanding presence, refined materials, and enduring aesthetic relevance. - More Information
