A charming hand carved wooden bird sculpture, Europe, mid 20th century.

The bird is reduced to a remarkably elegant silhouette, with a rounded teardrop-shaped body flowing into a slender curved neck and long tail. Two simple wooden legs connect the figure to its oval base, while small dark inset eyes provide the only additional detail.

The sculpture has been shaped entirely around line and proportion rather than naturalistic detail. Shows a beautiful dynamic stance, therefore this bird features a form that changes considerably when viewed from different angles. A modest yet highly sculptural sculpture that shows a lot of craftsmanship.

Comes in a good and original condition with slight wear due to age and use. Great patina.
