Specimen Wood Box In The Form Of A Lotus Flower, English Circa 1850

  • Description
    A specimen wood box in the form of a lotus flower, the exterior composed of alternating veneers of satinwood, walnut, and rosewood arranged in radiating segments forming petal-shaped lobes around the body. The lid decorated with geometric marquetry forming a star pattern within the lobed outline, centered by a small inlaid reserve.

    The sides repeat the alternating vertical veneers, continuing the rhythm of contrasting woods around the perimeter. The box raised on small carved feet with scroll terminals. The hinged lid opening to a hexagonal interior lined in mustard-colored velvet. Brass hinges and a working lock and key. English Circa 1850.
