Description
Surrealist Hand Sculpture by W.K.Marhoefer. Marhoefer's Titled Adelina
"A Show of Hands" series features 13 stuffed glove sculptures, each adorned with a glass eye in the palm. These sculptures, each named after an Italian girl, symbolize protection against evil, as seen in various cultures and religions.
William K. Marhoefer, born in 1952, earned his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a professor at Columbia College Chicago, he shared his expertise in painting, mixed media, and illustration.
Marhoefer draws inspiration from his upbringing in the Chicago Stockyards and meat packing industry, influenced by childhood experiences with his father. His artwork, shaped by his restoration work and comics background, reflects a blend of influences including African and Native American sculpture.
With over 45 years as a full-time art restorer, Marhoefer co-founded Broken Art Restoration Inc. in 1980. His pieces have been featured in various exhibitions, including those at the Hyde Park Art Center, The Art Institute of Chicago, and ongoing showcases at galleries like LeMieux Gallery in New Orleans, Marhoefer is also a vocalist.
