Pair of Neoclassical style gilt bronze candelabra by Susse Frères
French, c. 1900

Each candelabrum in this pair is designed in the Louis XVI style and wrought from fine gilt bronze. Each features a truncated pyramidal base set with a variety of gilt bronze mounts, including garlands, classical masks, and griffons. From the base of each rises the main stem of the candelabrum—the stem terminating in a single candle holder and encompassed by a further four scrolled branches. The gilt bronze is richly detailed through, with fine foliate forms and other such motifs predominating.
Each is signed ‘Susse Fes,’ for Susse Frères.
