Description
This fine early Tiffany Favrile Glass “Paperweight” Vase features a millefiori motif rarely seen in the company’s repertoire, depicting either the Lilies of the Valley or Snowdrops.
Formed by thick, clear glass, this vase showcases a dense composition of thin stems and narrow, pointed leaves in a vibrant shade of green rising from the base and spreading up into the rounded shoulder. Pendant white flowers are nestled in the foliage, each flower with multiple hanging petals descending from a small green stem, all cased within a layer of clear glass.
Few examples of Tiffany’s “Paperweight” Favrile Glass exhibiting this particular floral decoration are known, likely indicating that only a handful of vases were produced in this limited signature sequence in the late 1890s, a time of fervent experimentation at Louis Comfort Tiffany’s glassblowing complex. One of the only other known vases from this series was previously owned by early Tiffany collectors John Coats and Brian Connelly, whose important collection was sold at Parke-Bernet Galleries on October 21, 1966.
This rare and early example of Tiffany Favrile Glass is inscribed on the underside with signature and date code.
