Favrile Glass Paperweight Vase

This Tiffany Favrile Glass Vase showcases the Paperweight technique, one of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s early achievements in glassblowing pioneered at the turn of the 20th century. To produce Paperweight Favrile Glass, Tiffany’s glassblowers and chemists transformed traditional glassworking techniques that had been popularized in the Victorian era into an evocative line of Favrile Glass often featuring cased naturalistic floral motifs.

Contained within a thick layer of translucent glass, a series of small white narcissus flowers with deep orange centers formed by milefiori appear to float along the rounded shoulder, rising on a series of blade-like leaves in variegated green that subtly swirl around the bottom half of the vase. A thin layer of golden iridescence was applied to the interior of the vase, resulting in a subtle shimmering effect that further enhances the layers of the decoration.
